In a formal composition with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion compare and contrast how the authors of three different works we have studied use monsters and monstrousness to convey the themes of each work.

• Beowulf an epic poem by an anonymous Christian monk, translated by Burton Raffel;
• Grendel a novel by John Gardner;
• Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein a film directed by Kenneth Branagh;
• Lord of the Flies a novel by William Golding;
• and your independent reading book(s).
You MUST have notes for the essay.
